You’ll be able to access the builds that the developer makes available to you. I would also not be surprised if an iOS 16.0.3 update arrives before iOS 16.1.To test beta versions of apps and App Clips using TestFlight, you’ll need to accept an email or public link invitation from the developer and have a device that you can use to test. It will be interesting to see whether this sees iOS 16.0.1 rolled out more widely or if there is a jump straight to iOS 16.0.2 for all iPhones.
Note: before iOS 16.1 launches, I expect several more ‘minor point’ dedicated bug fixes. If you want early access to iOS 16 updates, join the Apple Beta Software Program. These include: lock screen customizations, support for Matter accessories, ‘Cleaning Energy Charging’, a battery percentage indicator for the status bar, a new screenshot UI and more. IOS 16.1 is already in beta testing, and it contains a number of features which didn’t make it into iOS 16. That said, as predicted, Apple has already rushed out a second dedicated bug fix in the shape of iOS 16.0.2. As such, for those already on iOS 16, it’s a no brainer to update. The bad news is it does nothing to fix the vast majority of them either.
The good news is iOS 16.0.1 appears to be causing additional issues to those already reported in iOS 16. No, iOS 16.0.1 doesn’t fix the vast majority of iOS 16 problems, but the fixes it provides are important, and it doesn’t appear to create new problems. As such, you have nothing to lose in upgrading. IOS 16.0.1 only applies to iPhone 14 owners (for now), so there is no option to install the significantly more stable iOS 15.7. That was not unexpected, coming just days after iOS 16 and iOS 15.7 delivered multiple patches.
